Dr. Sara Paukovich DACM, L.Ac.
After graduating from the University of California at Davis with a Bachelors of Science in Neuropsychology, Sara started her clinical work in the field of human behavior as a supervisor for early intervention therapy for children with autism in Sacramento, CA. Sara enjoyed her years in this career and learned the importance of individualized care and the joy of working in a clinical setting. However, she longed to work in a field that dealt more intimately with the mind-body connection that her undergrad degree had highlighted.
After much investigation into evidence-based fields of alternative medicine, acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine aligned with Sara’s understanding and beliefs about individual health. In 2005, Sara moved cross country from California to New York to pursue a four-year intensive Masters degree program in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). She then went on to obtain her Clinical Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. She has been a licensed acupuncturist for 15 years, first in New York State and then North Carolina with over 15,000 hours in clinical settings throughout her career.
As the owner of UNITY Acupuncture Clinic in Chapel Hill/Durham, Sara used the opportunity to promote the community acupuncture style of treatment, which makes acupuncture affordable to the widest number of people possible. She has a passion for helping patients find the least intrusive healthcare intervention that allows them to resolve an array of health issues. With the new clinic, Wilmington Acupuncture Studio, she is utilizing the hybrid community/private model she developed during the pandemic and intends to open up some purely community hours in the near future.
Since entering the TCM field, Sara truly feels she has not worked a day in her life as she loves seeing patients make significant improvements in painful and debilitating conditions with the use of acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, dietary changes and Chinese herbal medicine each day in her clinic. Watching patients awaken to the possibilities inherent in a medicine with roots 5,000 years deep is one of the highlights of Sara’s practice.
